| There are more than a dozen different varieties of the hoodia plant, but the active ingredient in hoodia gordonii is a molecule called P57. It affects the brain's hypothalamus in the same way glucose does - it tricks the brain into thinking you're full. Therefore, hoodia diet pills work as an appetite suppressant. The hoodia plant does not help to burn fat or build muscle, and it cannot compensate for a bad diet or those who eat when they're not hungry - hoodia's primary weight-loss effectiveness is found in its ability to stave off hunger. There are few published, scientific studies to give credence to the claims of this herb's weight-loss benefits and most of those studies involve animals. However, there have been small clinical trials with human subjects that have shown hoodia's positive effect on weight loss. |
